If you want to speed up your PC as much as possible without external programs (except for some essential tools. You can disable the automatic start of programs, reduce system animations and graphic effects. Update software and, in “extreme” cases, restore the system. I anticipate, however, that if the slowdowns are generated by a hardware problem to speed up your computer. You will have no choice but to replace the hardware components that cause them, but I’ll talk about that later.

One of the first precautions you can take to speed up your PC to the maximum is to  disable the automatic start of the programs , so as to free up some RAM,  speed up the system startup  and, therefore, improve its general computer performance.

To disable the automatic start of programs on  Windows , call the Task Manager  tool by pressing the Ctrl + Alt + Del keys  on the PC keyboard and then clicking on the Task Manager item from the menu that opens or by right-clicking in an “empty” point in the taskbar and then selecting the item Task management or Start task management from the menu that appears.

Then click on the More details item   (if necessary), select the Startup tab and disable all the programs that you do not want to run automatically at system startup, right-clicking on each of them and selecting the Disable  item  from the context menu.

PC with Windows 7

If you are using a PC with  Windows 7 (or a previous version of the Microsoft operating system) on board, you can disable the automatic start of the software by simultaneously pressing the Win + R keys  on the keyboard, then giving the msconfig command  and selecting the item  Start from the window that opens. For more information, read the article dedicated to  speeding up Windows 7 .

On macOS , however, you can disable the automatic start of programs in the following way: go  to System Preferences by  pressing the icon depicting the gears located on the Dock bar, click on the item  Users and groups , select your user account from the menu on the left, presses the Login Elements tab  , locate the applications you do not want to automatically activate when the system starts and click on the icon of each of them first and then on the button  (-)  which is located at the bottom left.

Another practical trick that can be useful to make your PC faster is to uninstall. All the programs you no longer use. Perhaps with the help of the guides in which I explain how to eliminate. Unnecessary software and how to uninstall programs.

After disabling the programs set to run automatically, do you still notice a certain slowness in your PC? In this case, I advise you to check for viruses and malware. Since the latter is often the cause of system slowdowns in which they have “nested”.

Installing Antivirus

Are you wondering how you can spot them? By installing antivirus (on the market there are many, both free and paid, then there is the excellent  Windows Defender which is included “as standard” in all the most recent versions of Windows), promptly updating their definitions (the signatures they use to detect possible malicious software) and by performing regular scans through them.

To update the antivirus definitions (which usually happens automatically at pre-set time intervals). Start the one installed on your PC and click on the Update button. To perform a system scan, on the other hand. Presses the appropriate button used to scan and select the Complete Scan to speed up your computer. The item from the appropriate menu (the procedure may be slightly different from antivirus to antivirus).

If you find it difficult to identify the aforementioned functions, consult the specific guides in which I explain in detail how to proceed on some of the most popular antivirus, including  Avast,  AVG, Avira, and Bitdefender.

Update the software:

If you want to speed up your PC, you must remember to update the software. Therefore both the operating system and the programs. The updates released by the software houses. In fact, often contain bug fixes (errors in the code). Which are one of the main causes of malfunctions and slowdowns on the general performance of the system.

To update your PC with  Windows 10 , go to the Settings menu (the gear icon located in the Start menu sidebar), go to Update and security  and select Windows Update from the left sidebar.

If you are using  Windows 7 (or a previous version of Microsoft’s operating system), open the Start menu , search for ” windows update ” and select the first occurrence found.
